This month’s post features a United Nations sponsored website which let’s you expand your vocabulary while you “earn” rice to feed the hungry.
Do you like to learn? How about helping the less fortunate? Here is the website that can help you to do both.
FreeRice, a website run by the United Nations World Food Program, offers an online game you can play to expand your knowledge in a number of subject areas – languages, math, art, geography and more. Each time you play, FreeRice generates money from advertising, which they use to buy rice and donate it to hungry people around the world.
I can’t believe how easy (and how addictive) this is. In the span of a 25-minute Go Train ride, I expanded my vocabulary playing the languages game and donated about 5, 000 grains of rice. Thanks to other people who are also playing, FreeRice has fed millions of people around the world since its inception in 2007.
FreeRice lets you choose the level of difficulty, so it’s a great way for everyone to learn – business people, students, and kids alike. Share this website with everyone you know and make a difference in someone’s life.
What a great way to learn something new and feed the hungry too!
